Baking On A Wood Stove
“We like to take advantage of free heat coming off our wood stove whenever we can by cooking food right on top of the stove,” says Gerilynne Heston, Grand Marais, Minn.
She recently sent FARM SHOW photos of how she cooks sweet potatoes on an enamel plate placed under an upside down stainless steel mixing bowl. She says she uses the same idea to cook squash, soups, stews and even biscuits.
“It’s a simple idea but it works great. The upside down mixing bowl does a great job of retaining the heat,” says Heston. “If you want, you can place the food on tin foil instead of a plate.”
