Tailgate Conserves Gas
Replacing the solid metal tailgate on your pickup with a tailgate made of wire mesh can stretch gas mileage 14 to 37%.
So says H. Ray Morgan, president of Morgan Equipment Corp., Scottdale, Ga. manufacturer of the new Air-Thru wire mesh tailgate.
"You're bound to improve gas mileage on your pickup with this new-style tailgate," says Morgan. "It's a simple fact of aerodynamics.
The Air-Thru reduces drag, making the engine's work easier. Fuel savings of up to 4.9 mpg have been documented in road tests. To the typical pickup owner who drives 15,000 or more miles per year, that could mean about $200 a year in energy dollars saved.
