Squeeze Hesston Big Bales To Half Size
A new Hesston bale-squeeze machine may mean big savings in transport costs for commercial hay growers.
Built in Britain, the new compactor can reduce a big 9-ft. long Hesston square bale to just 4¢ ft. by applying nearly 400,000 lbs. pressure. Once compressed, the compactor automatically reties the existing strings. The process takes just a minute or so and company spokesman Colin Hare says it can easily squeeze 25 to 30 bales per hour.
The machine has its own 80 hp. engine driving 3 hydraulic pumps, but could be driven by tractor pto if desired.
The main business of the manufacturer, Moor Farm, is commercial straw production. The company operates 10 Hesston balers during August, September and October, treating it and selling it for animal feed. They also manufacture bale handling equipment and have had inquiries from throughout the world for the bale compactor, which sells for around $50.000.
