"Fast Idle" Control For Diesel Engines
New electronic "fast idle" control kit prevents valve train problems and reduced life on Ford 7.3-liter power stroke diesel engines, says Saskatoon Diesel Services Group, Saskatoon, Sask. The kit allows you to select any idle speed from stock up to 2,000 rpm's. It maintains engine rpm's and operating temperature whenever the engine is started in cold weather, which results in faster warm-up, longer engine life, and reduced fuel consumption.
"It hooks up to the foot control and uses a dash-mounted controller that lets you dial in the desired rpm's. It's disconnected by pushing down on the parking brake. The foot control is locked out when you're not using it," says sales manager Bryn Fromhart. "It maintains the operating temperature of an idling engine without allowing it to drop too low which could cause damage to the valves. It saves you money because Ford's stock control sells for $600 while ours sells for $259 (Canadian). Another advantage is that our kit is fully variable from base idle to 2,000 rpm's whereas Ford's control can be used only down to 1,300 rpm's."
