Reusable "Silo Bags" For Bunker Silos
A French company says using sand-filled bags to cover bunker silos is a lot cleaner and easier than using old tires.
You cover the silage with plastic as usual, then lay a woven protective tarp over the top. You load the tarp with rows of tubes filled with the sand bags.
The bags are about 5 ft. long. The tubes are available in 15, 24, 30, 36, and 48-ft. lengths to match the width of the silo. The tubes should be spaced about 16 ft. apart. After filling the bags with sand you slide them inside one end of the tube. Then you close the ends of the tube using attached strings. When you're ready to uncover the silage, you simply slide the entire tube off the silo toward you.
The bags can also be used individually instead of inside the tubes and come with handles which makes them easy to move. They can be easily stored on pallets.
