Put This Auction On Your Calendar
If you love antique tractor auctions - and you don't mind traveling to southern Illinois - you might want to make a note on your calendar to check out what has become one of the best annual auctions in the country.
The 7th Annual Thanksgiving Antique Tractor Collector's auction will be held at the Aumann Auction Center near Nokomis, Ill., on November 29th and 30th. It's scheduled each year for the Friday and Saturday following the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
The auction just keeps growing. Conducted by father-son auction team Kurt and Nelson Aumann - two of the busiest rural auctioneers in the country - each year's sale features many rare tractors, steam engines, farm toys, pedal tractors, literature and memorabilia.
The highlight of the show last year were three big steam engines and a Fordson tractor that were consigned by the St. Louis Museum of Transportation.
Other rare machines sold at last year's auction included a Best crawler, a direct ancestor of Caterpillar; a Farmall 130, the first Farmall ever made; a stationary steam engine called a Frick Eclipse, presented by Ben Carpenter, a grandson of Frick who keeps track of where the collectibles are; a rare 1919 Fordson tractor; and dozens more antiques of all makes.
A semi load of tractors from Canada was also sold at the auction.
The Aumanns specialize in "collectibles" auctions and are among the most knowledgeable in the country when it comes to antique tractors, toys, literature, etc. To get on their mailing list for future auctions, contact: FARM SHOW Followup, Aumann Auctions, 20114 Illinois Rt. 6, Nokomis, Ill. 62075 (ph 217 563-2523).
