"LazyLawn" Looks Like The Real Thing FARM HOME Miscellaneous 27-4-43 What if you never had to mow your lawn for the rest of your life? If that sounds good to you, you might want to check out new LazyLawn synthetic turf with its 2-in. tall fibers that the company says looks so much like real Kentucky Blue Grass that it can be difficult to tell the difference. Best of all, there's no mowing, watering, fertilizing, thatching, weeding, edging, or pest control. According to company president, Dale Potts in Scottsdale, Arizona, the artificial grass is as resilient and realistic looking as real grass, and much more dependable. "The UV-protected polyethylene fibers in LazyLawn have been bent and spring-set to help prevent matting over time. They are water resistant and made from the softest fibre component in the industry," he says. "A small amount of sand infill is required to stabilize the root of the fiber and weigh down the turf. Also, it has special shock absorbing backing that is perforated, called AquaDrain, which allows the turf to drain twice as fast as real grass sod." This turf comes in 12 by 100-ft. rolls and can be laid down like carpet. Potts says it is unlikely that weeds will be able to grow up through the turf's backing, but if any did, they can be sprayed with a weed killer. LazyLawn turf comes with a five-year manufacturer's limited warranty against excessive wear and fading. Potts points out that removing any leaves, debris or doggie-do-do that may accumulate is easy with a leaf blower or a plastic lawn rake. By doing this, and annually applying the company's special UV spray treatment, Potts says the life expectancy of LazyLawn can be well over 10 years. Drought and environmental concerns due to chemical applications are prime reasons why LazyLawn is catching on, according to Potts. It has been used successfully from Arizona to Canada. If the turf gets cut or damaged in any way, it can simply be patched. There are three different types of LazyLawn available. Homeowners may install the product themselves, or pay extra for professional installation. The total cost for a professionally installed LazyLawn runs between $4 and $7 per sq. foot.
