Massey Harris 444 Fitted With Homemade Spoke Wheels TRACTORS Antiques 27-1-43 I'm sending along a photo of my antique Massey Harris 444 tractor and the homemade spoke wheels I built for it. The spokes are made out of 3/4-in. dia. steel and are welded to wheel rims that measure 11 by 38 on back and 16 in. on front. To hold everything in place, I fabricated a jig out of 6-in. channel iron in the shape of a cross. The wheel hubs were made out of 12 and 6-in. dia. gas line couplers. My total cost was $385. I spent $300 for the rear wheel rims; $50 for the spoke material; $10 for the front wheel rims; and $25 for six cans of spray paint. (Edward C. Roofner, Rt. 3, Box 322, Kittanning, Pa. 16201 ph 724 548-1226)
