The stem is .005 thicker and the head is a .010 thicker margin and has a flathead surface. You very seldom have to replace guides with this thicker-stemmed valve - just ream your old guide to fit the new valve. That will save you time and money, as changing guides does cost money. It'll also save your engine head from possible cracking when pushing the old guides out. Also, the valve head is enough thicker to bring it up to specs and gain compression on the used seats. "These heavy duty valves are also available for the 354 Perkins in the intake and exhaust valves."
