Twin-Row Option Now Available In 4, 6 And 8-Row Planters

Features like air metering; on-row, in-row or between row fertilizer application; and twin-row, 30-in. rows were not available for small to medium size operations.
"We had requests for smaller planters with the latest technology from our dealers and our territory managers," explains Greg Brenneman, marketing manager, Great Plains Equipment. "The market for planters of these sizes is still out there, and it's surprisingly good."
Brenneman notes that some of the planters will be bought by larger farmers or dealers who want to do plot and field demonstrations. Whatever the reason, the new planters are there for anyone who wants 99.5 percent spacing accuracy and the option of twin-rows on 30-in. spacings. Twin-row spacing gives the yield advantages of 20-in. narrow row planting without the cost of a new corn head.
"We know farmers won't be able to push the population numbers needed for 300 bu. per acre crops without going to narrow rows," says Brenneman. "You don't need a new corn head to harvest twin rows."
The Great Plains Air-Pro metering system and fertilizer options are also available in single row configurations. Both single and twin-row configurations can be ordered with either 3-pt. or pull-type hitches. Pull-type planters can be equipped with liquid fertilizer tanks.
Base prices for a 4-row planter range from $15,390 for single rows to $23,819 for twin-rows. Six-row planter prices range from $19,741 for single to $32,484 for a twin. Eight-row models range from $24,041 for a single to $40,900 for a twin-row. Prices do not include fertilizer options, row cleaners or coulters.
