Quality Work Clothes Cheap
Six pants and six shirts for under $50? Coveralls for $11? The price is right and there is plenty of life left in the reconditioned work clothes sold by Walt's Wholesale Clothing. And as a bonus, the clothing is actually made in the U.S.
"These are commercial grade products," says Carlton Wiley, owner of the South Carolina company. "What you get is an industrial product that's double-stitched, more durable, and treated to be soil and grease-resistant so they will come out clean."
The company purchases clothing from rental businesses that launder and deliver uniforms for everything from laboratories to manufacturers to car repair shops. Wiley's staff makes simple repairs on buttons and zippers, and tosses out any clothing with holes, tears or stains. Their full line of work clothes is sold through the company's website.
"Farmers make up a large percentage of our customers," Wiley says. Her father, Walt, started the business with a friend in 1968. They bought used garments, then delivered them to farm and feed stores to sell on consignment. By 1976, Walt was sole owner, and he started a mail order company. Adding a website more than a decade ago opened even more doors to new customers.
A recently updated website includes photos of the clothing they offer. Prices start at $2.75 for painter's shirts. Work shirts run $4 each or $39.95/dozen. Shipping is not included.
