Left Hand Drill Bits FARM SHOP Tools 2-4-16 "They've been one of the hottest selling new farm shop item in our line since we introduced them," says a spokesman for Lawson Products, marketer of left hand drill bits.
Unlike conventional right hand drill bits, the left hand spiral turns in the same direction the broken stud has to be turned. And, unlike the usual "drill tap" method, the left hand bit will usually save the screw. In most cases, turning of the drill will turn out the broken stud without seriously damaging it or the threads.
Although the left hand bit, made of high quality steel, can be used for regular hole drilling, you probably wouldn't use it except in emergency situations since it's more expensive.
