Don't Use Old Railroad Flatbed Cars As Bridges
As a farmer and professional civil engineer, I was disturbed by your recent article about using old railroad flatbed cars as bridges. Until a structural analysis can be done on the structure of each car used, it’s dangerous and, in many instances, illegal to use these for this purpose. No respectable transportation engineer would allow this on any public roadway. As a farmer I understand the attraction of this idea but don’t do it! You are better off in the long run to purchase culverts and bridge material from a reputable supplier. (Todd Larson, todd.larson@hancockconcrete.com)Click here to download page story appeared in.
