6-Ft. Rake Makes Yard Clean-Up Easy
It doesn’t take Roland Erikson long to remove branches and debris from his 3-acre yard with the oversized rake he pulls behind his riding mower. Built of wood, 3/4-in. galvanized water pipe, and 8-in. combine reel tines, it’s heavy-duty and 74 in. wide.
The 24 tines are spread uniformly across the two 72-in. pipes. He secures the tines with self-tapping screws or bolts drilled through the pipe.
Erikson used muffler clamps and chain to fasten 2 by 4’s to the pipe, and put a ball hitch on the front.
“This rake has served me well for more than 10 years,” Erikson says. “Once full it works best if someone can lift and shake it clean, then the driver moves forward and the rake is set on clean ground.”
He adds that besides raking debris, the rake dethatches the lawn and dresses gravel areas.
