Add-On Power Kit for Skateboards
You can travel at speeds up to 15 mph with this new engine-powered skateboard.
Developed by Tom Shannahan, San Luis Obisbo, Calif., it looks like a conventional skateboard but has a 21-cc, 2-cycle engine on back that chain-drives a poly drive wheel directly under the engine. The rider controls the engine, which is fitted with an automatic clutch, using a hand-held throttle. Sells for $399.
Shannahan also makes a "powered diutboard" designed for off-road riding that's ideal for farmyards, gravel roads, fields, etc. It looks like a conventional skateboard but has cleated wheels and has a 2-wheel drive axle. Sells for $499.
