Simple Remote Mailbox Alarm
“My mailbox is about 300 ft. from my house. After years of making trips out in the cold or rain only to find it empty, I finally decided to do something about it,” says Vincent Kramper, Dakota City, Neb.
“I went to Harbor Freight (www.harborfreight.com) and bought a $12 battery-operated, wireless motion alarm system. I cut a 3-in. hole in the back of the box and positioned the motion alarm so it’s facing into the box. I covered the alarm with a protective box. When the mailbox lid is opened, it sends a wireless signal to a receiver in the house, which makes a nice alert sound telling you the mail has arrived. No wires to the house are needed.
“You could just put the motion sensor inside the box to avoid cutting a hole in the back of the box. My wife really appreciates this one.”
