Shotgun Holster Reduces Fatigue, Makes Hunt Safer
The first one he made was a two-piece leather design that showcased Kawamoto’s leather-working skills. He made it for his father for a five-day pheasant hunt.
“He wanted something to support his shotgun in a natural carrying position; he just didn’t want all the weight on his arms,” Kawamoto says. “He got a few laughs (from fellow hunters) initially, but by the second day they weren’t laughing, and then they were asking to try it out.”
About 30 prototypes later, he started selling Quick-Shot holsters through the family’s company, Peregrine Field Gear, an Austin, Texas, company.
The holster comes with a belt or slips onto any belt, and has features that make it work really well for nearly all shooters.
“The wedge shape is a key factor,” Kawamoto says, “because it allows the holster to be moved right, left, center – anywhere – on the belt and still be comfortable to hold.”
The Quick-Shot holster fits shotguns and rifles with butts up to 5 3/8-in., comes with a lifetime warranty, and retails for $35 (black synthetic), $40 (camo synthetic) and $130 (U.S. handcrafted leather).
