Hose End Chamber Prevents Coupler Lock-Ups In Hydraulic Implements And Attachments
Have you had couplers that lock up? Have you had problems connecting your hoses? Have you had hydraulic cylinders that have damaged seals or developed leaks? Have you had hydraulic folding wings unfold in storage?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, it is most likely because of hydraulic pressure buildup within your hoses from thermal expansion.
The Hose End Chamber (HEC) makes hydraulic pressure buildup in hoses (while out of service) a thing of the past. The HEC prevents pressure when rising temperatures cause hydraulic oil to expand. People often don’t know what the problem is, only that sometimes it’s hard to reconnect hoses.
After extensive research, it was found that as little as 400 PSI of pressure can lock up a traditional Pioneer-style coupler. A flat face coupler takes only 300 PSI before it can no longer be reconnected. Thermal expansion can create hydraulic pressure in a cylinder and hoses sitting in the sun as high as 4200 PSI; and it does not need high temperatures, just a temperature differential.
Here are five reasons why you need a HEC if you work with hydraulics:
1. It prevents quick coupler lock ups from thermal expansion.
2. It prevents damage to hydraulic components from the extreme pressures from thermal expansion.
3. Using the HEC is a safer way to couple up than trying to release high thermal expansion pressures improperly.
4. It prevents loss of expensive hydraulic fluid while needing to remove couplers to relieve pressure.
5. It prevents hydraulic folding wings from unfolding in storage.
The HEC is made in the USA and comes in three sizes; L-12, S-12 and S-38. The L-12 is the large chamber and is designed for full-size and multi-cylinder attachments ($75.00). The S-12 is a small chamber and is designed for single cylinder attachments and accepts ½ inch couplers. ($45.00). The S-38 is designed for compact tractor attachments and accepts 3/8 inch couplers ($45.00).
