Mini Quick Hitch For Small Tractors
Anyone who’s hooked up 3-point equipment to a small tractor knows that it’s often a tedious, finger-pinching job. Pat Greenwell had that same dilemma and solved the problem. Using his farm knowledge of the Eagle hitch on Case open station tractors, Greenwell built an easy change system for his small farm tractor.
“I came up with the idea for myself and once neighbors and friends saw how easy it worked, I was making sets for them too,” Greenwell says. “Before long word spread and she really took off.”
Today Greenwell Manufacturing produces Pat’s Easy Change System for Cat 1 and Cat 2 hitches and sells them around the world. “They just make hitching a lot simpler because they change both lift arms to hooks. Using them lets you work smarter and not harder. Attaching a tiller or mower or any other 3-point tool can be done right from the tractor seat,” Greenwell says.
Pat’s receivers slip over the tractor lift arms and lock firmly in place with a 7/8 in. pin for the Cat 1 and 1 1/8 in. pin for the Cat 2. A U-bolt at the back of the receivers stabilizes them on the lift arm. The patented alignment system uses bolts with jam nuts so the receivers fit tight to the lift arm of different tractors. Shims are provided if additional adjustment is needed.
Pat’s system uses cast steel from Minnesota and is assembled at his plant in Kentucky. It’s sized for standard Cat 1 or Cat 2 implements without using bushings. Edges of the hook are rounded so the implement pins slip in easily. The pins are secured with a spring-loaded latch, which is released by hand and locked open so the implement can be unhooked.
“When I built the first set of these I had no idea it would grow into quite a business, but that’s exactly what’s happened,” Greenwell says. “We’re proud to offer a great product that’s useful for people around the world.”
