“World’s Coolest Rain Gauge”
This -floating rain gauge comes with a measurement tube that rises from an outer collection flute to show how much it has rained. But unlike most rain gauges, the lower numbers are at the top of the tube and are also visible from a great distance.
Created by Moira “Mo” Clune, the World's Coolest Rain Gauge uses water displacement to measure rainfall. When the gauge is empty the measuring tube is hidden inside a copper flute. But when it starts to rain, the measurement tube floats up.
The 6-in. high, 1 1/2-in. dia. copper flute collects the water, and a 6-in. long blue polycarbonate measuring tube with a calibrated float fits inside the flute. As water fills the flute, the blue tube floats up, displaying the rainfall measurement.
The rain gauge is held in a powder-coated steel mount and comes with a 24-in. long mounting stake. Table top and deck-mount models are also available. Resin flutes instead of copper are also available at a lower price.
“The World’s Coolest Rain Gauge is easy to read and fun to use, and it looks beautiful. We sell many to nurseries and garden centers, and also sell a ton of them as gifts,” says inventor Mo Clune. “They’re made in the U.S. and are very durable. I’ve been making these floating rain gauges for 25 years and take pride in my customer service. I sell rain gauge parts for every imaginable catastrophe, because whatever happens, it’s fixable.
“Prices range from $21.95 for an 8-in. tri-mount resin gauge, up to $58.95 for a copper gauge, which is available with either a 24-in. stake or a 9-in. table top mount.”
