“Wheel Hoe” Garden Tiller Built For Comfort
This 1-row “wheel hoe” garden tiller is more comfortable to operate than anything on the market, says the manufacturer.
The TAG Equipment wheel hoe was developed by Tom and Marybeth Gentry for use in their market garden in Colorado. “We designed it after we tried other wheel hoes but weren’t satisfied. The biggest difference in our wheel hoe is the ergonomically designed handles,” says Gentry.
Made from 1-in. tubing, the handles have soft foam rubber grips and are bent in a circumference so they can be comfortably held from any position. Handle height is adjustable, with 3 different settings that can easily be changed by resetting a pin.
“Our handle is about 1 ft. longer than the ones on most other wheel hoes. That reduces the angle so you don’t have to hold the handle as high as you push forward,” says Gentry.
The wheel hoe rides on a large, flat-free rubber tire and comes with a 5-in. stirrup hoe that shears off weeds 1/2 to 2 in. below the soil surface. Larger stirrup hoe attachments and a 3-tine cultivator attachment are sold separately.
Attachments are secured with one pin. The company’s 5 and 7-in. stirrup hoes come with 2 side-by-side mounts, which allows you to place the hoe either directly behind the tire or slightly off to one side.
The TAG wheel hoe sells for $275 plus S&H.
