“Best Buy” Combats Barn Odors LIVESTOCK Buildings Noel Isaac New Virginia Iowa : “If you have livestock in a building and ammonia odors are a problem you need to try Bio-Safe We raise meat goats and during the winter months especially the stench of ammonia in the barn is horrible It permeates our clothing wafts out the doors and is absolutely intrusive to say the least To make matters worse our house is attached to the barn so there is an ongoing battle to keep our living space ‘barn free’ “A friend told us about Mark Heston at Bio-Safe Technologies markheston1@gmail com; ph 641-223-2285 He created a product that our friend swore would change our lives We were skeptical having tried just about everything to combat the stink including pine shavings bulk lime bulk baking soda and more as well as scraping the floors weekly and simply airing the area out We purchased 40 lbs of this sand-like substance and applied 5 lbs to about 1 000 sq ft We top-dressed 10-day-old bedding of nearly 40 does and kids in the stalls “To our surprise it made a significant impact and eliminated the ammonia smell for several days We decided to give the Bio-Safe a legitimate test “We scraped all the stalls down to bare dirt in each and every pen In very short order the smells were back up to the atrocious level We applied liberal amounts of the Bio-Safe to the bare dirt applied new straw bedding and turned the goats back in “Normally we clean the bedding out every two weeks just to control the odor It was nearly a month before the ammonia smell reappeared I top-dressed the bedding at a rate of 1 lb per 100 sq ft and that killed the ammonia for another two weeks “At eight weeks I cleaned the barn after weaning the goats The odors quickly returned I put another 20 lbs of Bio-Safe on the floors and the problem was solved again Our home no longer smells like we live in a barn even though we technically do live in a barn “Now that we have a handle on the urine smell we are adding Bio-Safe to our regular maintenance schedule to ensure we never have to deal with that volume of odor again “We aren’t affiliated with Bio-Safe and we don’t get a commission from sales of it We are simply impressed with a product invented by a small-town guy that solves an age-old problem We wanted to pass along a solid referral for anyone else who has been dealing with the ‘smell of money’ for years on end like we did ”
