Sliding Door Hangers Made From Scrap Parts
![]() |
“When you buy track and the necessary hardware, you don’t get much for the money,” he says. “I thought I could use what I had instead.”
First, he cut the track to the length he needed, then welded 6-in. brackets every foot to secure it with lag screws above the doorway. On the doors, he used three stair-stepped thinner pieces of metal to give a stylish look. He drilled a hole in them for the track wheel axles to slide through and then put everything together on the track. When it was in place, he tacked a small weld on the pin to hold it secure.
“If you have trouble with a wheel or axle, just knock them out and slide a new one in. One or two scrap doors give you plenty of wheels and track.”
