His company has just introduced a new 500 gal. gooseneck sprayer. A 1000 gal, model is slated for introduction next year. Both models can be used for spraying, or for applying liquid fertilizer.
If, because of mud or other adverse field conditions, a pickup can't pull the gooseneck, it can be unhitched and towed with a tractor via the drawbar or 3 pt. hitch. Booms on the Clark 500 gal. model cover a 40 ft. swath and are spring loaded and equipped with break-away hinging. Boom height is adjustable from 1 ft. to 4 ft. or more off the ground.
The wheels are designed to track 62 in. on center when turned one way (for 30 in. rows) and 68 in. when reversed (for 40 in. rows). A 3 hp. gasoline engine drives the unit's Hypro centrifugal pump which is equipped with an electrical on-off control for operation right from the driver's seat.
Retail cost is right at $2,800.

Unable to find anyone manufacturint a "gooseneck" 5th wheel sprayer, the Yocum Brothers, Ross and Roger, of Cable, Ohio, designed and built their own. They've since custom-built five units and, to meet mounting demand, have "tooled up" to produce the popular new-stylesprayers commercially.
Production models of their 5th wheel "gooseneck" sprayers are equipped with a ground-drive metering pump. It delivers a uniform output regardless of field speed, which generally ranges from 5 to 15 mph.
"Big advantage is the extra versatility the gooseneck design offers," explains Ross. "It's a self-contained unit and easy to hook and unhook without tieing up the pickup. We also offer it with a ball hitch for towing behind a tractor."
Other key features include a 580 gal. polyethylene see-through tank; 40 ft. shock-absorbing, folding, breakaway booms; 10 ton axles and hubs; and a stepboard for easy filling. The Yocums say the trailer handles all kinds of spraying jobs, such as top-dressing, pre-planting, postemergence, or spot treating with a hand gun. Wheels of the unit track 30 or 40 in. rows. An agitation pump is powered by a side-mounted gas engine.
