He Brings Smiles to Fairgoers Every Year With His Custom "HIllbilly Bob" Vehicle
Iowa farmer Bob Hill brings smiles to fairgoers every year with his custom “Hillbilly Bob” vehicles. As described in FARM SHOW (Vol. 47, No. 5), Hill draws a crowd like a circus clown handing out free candy. In 2023, he drove “Johnny,” his Deere MT tractor. In 2024, he was behind the wheel of his cluttered and trusty antique Ford, known as “Old Ruthie.” “I change vehicles every year depending on where I’m going and where I’ve been,” says Hill, who has trailered his vehicles more than 355,000 miles over the past 31 years.
Hill frequently stops while touring fairgrounds, blowing up skinny balloons and twisting them into clever shapes “just to amuse the kids and make ‘em smile.” He says his real job of farming is a great way to make a living, but spreading smiles and good cheer with these old vehicles is his real blessing to others.
