Bob Sullivan, regional sales manager for SM Sales, Sanborn, Minn., explains that the add-on dart helps the sweep fracture the soil better. It also keeps the sweep sharp, pointed, and symmetrical while also reducing wear along the top of the sweep.
He says an 8-in. dart-equipped sweep doesn't pull any harder than a similar size conventional shank or a 4-in. helical twist shank, yet breaks up more soil.
