Straw chopper for balers HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Accessories 14-2-22 Most European countries have either passed laws or plan to pass laws to outlaw burn-off of straw in grainfields. This new add-on chopper for big square balers helps get rid of the straw and turns it into a valuable asset. The Ferri company from Italy developed the pto-powered chopper which mounts ahead of the pickup and removes straw right down to the ground. Export manager Domenico Bassolino told FARM SHOW the bales of chopped-up straw can be more easily used for litter or as a roughage feed additive than bales made from unchopped straw. The chopper can also be used in cornstalks and other crop residue. The add-on chopper requires no modification to baler. It includes a right angle splitter gearbox that provides pto power to both baler and chopper.
