Bird Scat Strips Scare Birds Away
The 3-ft. long, 1 7/8-in. wide metallic strips simply attach with push pins to barn door openings, garage doors, or anywhere roosting birds are a problem. The bottom end of the tape dangles freely. Strips are spaced about 4 ft. apart inside the door opening.
"They really keep birds away and are environmentally safe. There are no chemicals and no need to mess with trapped birds," says Olson. "The strips will move in the slightest breeze, sparkling as they reflect light. We've used them on our farm for three years. We have a pole barn with sliding doors that open to 18 ft. and we always had swallows and other birds trying to get in-side. We didn't like the mess and the hassle of trying to chase birds out at night.
"You can also attach two or three strips to stakes to keep birds out of gardens or hang them from tree branches. We have some young cedar trees that were damaged by deer rubbing on them. After we tied the strips onto the tree branches the deer stayed away.
"Tape tabs are used to attach to any metal or concrete surface where push pins can't be used. A package of 12 strips sells for $12.95."
