Gooseneck Trailer for Mini, Mid-Size Pickups HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Bale Handling (5) 14-6-22 If you own a mini or a mid-range pickup, you'll want to take a look at these new down-sized gooseneck trailers designed with your truck in mind.
Don Wilkinson and Bill Vogler of Barnes, Kan., say that when they couldn't find a 5th wheel trailer to pull behind their own small-size pickups, they decided to fill the void with one of their own.
"It gives you the hauling capacity of a full-sized trailer but lets you take advantage of the economy of a smaller pickup. Goose-necks pull much better than a bumper hitch and load distribution is much better," says Vogler.
The new 4,000-lb. capacity trailer is 6 ft., 2 in. wide and either 12 or 14 ft. long, fitted with 20.5 by 8 tires. The trailer bed is 27 in. off the ground. It's got tandem rubber torsion axles with electric brakes, and a 2 by 6-in. wood floor. Can be painted to match your pickup. Can also be used with a full-size pickup.
A 12-ft. flatbed sells for $1,995. Also available with a bumper hitch.
