Header Update Kit
That header update kit we told you about 18 months ago for IH 1440, 1460 and 1480 combines made between 1977 and 1980 is now available for Allis Chalmers F, F2, K and K2 combines.
Manufactured by the Jameson Corp., Tipton, Iowa, the automatic electric-hydraulic header control kit updates the mechanical header control system on early models to a micro switch system similar to what most manufacturers now install on current models, according to Jameson representative Chuck Kofron.
"Farmers with older models find the header doesn't respond quick enough, and ends up either digging into the ground or missing low-lying beans in the field. The new switches on our kit respond instantly to the sensing fingers on the cutterbar. A solenoid-operated control valve is activated by the switches to operate the hydraulic lift cylinders on the header for fast, accurate control," says Kofron.
The refit kit eliminates the hard-to-adjust accumulator and the three shut-off valves on the IH system.
The update kit to fit IH headers sells for $760. The Allis Chalmers kit sells for $675. A kit to fit Deere row crop headers, which have their own cam switch assembly, sells for $709. Kits are available through selected dealers.
