Portable Livestock Loading Chute
Several years ago when Joe Robertson, San Saba, Texas, needed a portable loading chute, he went out shopping for one. There were one or two on the market but most were either too short or were too hard to crank up into position."My home-built chute is raised and lowered with a hand-operated hydraulic pump and is 23-ft. long, which allows it to load a triple deck truck. It's fitted with a 3 by 8-in. hydraulic cylinder and rides on a pair of automotive wheels. It'll load all types of livestock - cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, etc. - and is 36 in. wide inside. It's all metal construction with a walking access ramp along the outside. Can be easily pulled by a car or pickup and is balanced for easy one-man hookup. The hitch fits a standard 2-in. ball," says Robertson, who now builds and sells the chutes for $1,975.
