Oil Filter Wrench Gets In Tight Spaces
The JM3 oil filter wrench is a revolutionary design that offers the most comfortable wrench servicing possible for removing oil filters.
The idea was conceived when founder Michael Gutierrez’s brother, “Joe Max,” worked on a 1962 Impala. Joe couldn’t remove the oil filter due to its location despite attempting to do so with multiple tools. He eventually had to stab at it with a screwdriver, which ripped the shell off the filter and required chiseling everything away to combat the damage from rust welding. “I heard the story, and I thought to myself, there has to be a better tool to do this,” says Gutierrez.
Michael tried to convince Joe that the two of them could develop a better tool for the job. Unfortunately, Joe passed away in 2010. However, Gutierrez continued with Joe’s vision. He always credits his brother for this idea. “About 3 1/2 years later, Joe came to him in a dream and showed him what the wrench needed to look like. Gutierrez believed the dream was a vision, so he bought a CNC machine to replicate it, and the rest is history.
The JM3 filter tool (appropriately named for his brother’s initials) was officially approved for patenting around the anniversary of his brother’s passing.
The tool has a compact design that’s easy to handle and store. Sturdy 16-gauge steel ensures it’ll last through years of use. Sizing options range from S (2.48 in.) to XL (3.54 in.). Refer to the company website for a complete size chart.
A Gen-1 five-piece standard wrench set sells for $99.99. It includes wrenches suitable for Wix, Micro-Guard, STP, MoPar, and NAPA filters. Single wrenches are $29.99, and a set of three is $74.99. Shipping is free (continental U.S.) for all tools.
“It’s the safest tool you’ll ever use,” says Gutierrez. “You’ll never bust your knuckles again.”
