Gempler's "Air Cap" weighs just 9 oz. because it's made out of cotton twill rather than plastic or fiberglass. A micro fan motor and filter are built into the bill of the cap, powered by a battery pack that clips to your belt. A flip-up clear plastic shield extends down over the upper part of the face. The fan pulls outside air through the filter and then blows it down over the face, creating a slight pressure that keeps outside air - together with dust and dirt - from moving upward under the shield.
