New Style Truck Box Back On The Market
✖ |
They're still calling it the first really new idea in trucking in years ù a cylindrical-shaped box that opens and shuts hydraulically with the flip of a switch in the cabù but the "Protector" truck box is now being manufactured by a different company and has a new sales organization.
The unique truck box was first featured in FARM SHOW nearly four years ago when the inventor formed a new company to market the unique truck box. Since then, the inventor died and a new company ù Janro Mfg. ù has taken over production.
The Protector eliminates the need for tarps with lids that are completely wind, rain and snow-proof.
The lids, which were hydraulically operated on original production models, now work electrically off the truck's 12-V system. Ben Mellin, sales manager for Janro Mfg., says some purchasers of the original protector has trouble with the lids creeping open when the truck was parked with the motor off. He says a retrofit kit will soon be available.
The lids open and close independent of each other in about 15 seconds. A gear on the electrical motors walks up a chain on either side of the box.
You can haul livestock as well as grain in the "protector" truck box. It's available with an optional "checkerplate" floor to give animals a better foothold. Lids can be left part way up to serve as livestock racks and, if needed, rear corner panels on the lids can be removed for extra ventilation. You can use the new-style box to haul silage, too ù provided you have a high-dumping hoist on your truck.
A standard feature on the new box is a unique, three-piece swinging and rubber-sealed endgate.
Comes in 14 to 24-ft. lengths, 8 or 8 1/2 ft. wide with 54-in. sides. A 14-ft., 8 1/2 ft. wide box has a 414 bu. level load capacity. Mellin notes that a "grain drain" is being developed to fit over the rear door as well as a stock rack to "square up" the inside of the box for hauling livestock.
