"Straight Up" Post Puller
✖ |
"It works faster than any other post puller on the market. It allows you to pull T-posts straight up out of the ground without having to bend over and without damaging the post," says Bob Anderson, Construction Accessories, Inc., Waynesville, Ohio.
The JackJaw T-Post Extractor is made from heavy gauge steel plate and tubing, with a base plate welded onto the bottom. It works on T-posts, round electric fence posts, and any other stake or pole up to 1 in. thick.
The unit works like a ratchet on a jack, except that it grabs the post using a pair of cam-shaped, case hardened steel jaws. The jaws, which are free to slide up or down, are connected by link arms to the handle. When the handle is raised, the jaws are in the open position.
The operator uses his foot to push the base plate up against the post with the jaws on either side of the long edge of the post. When he pushes down on the handle, the jaws clamp onto the post and raise the T-post a few inches out of the ground. When he raises the handle, the jaws release their grip and slide back down to a lower point on the post.
"You're pulling the post straight up out of the ground exactly opposite the way it went into the ground, which is the easiest way to pull a post," says Anderson. "Most other post pullers on the market pull the post out on an arc, so you're trying to push the post sideways through the ground which results in wasted energy.
The JackJaw's design results in tremendous leverage, says Anderson. "The mechanism gives the operator a 9:1 mechanical advantage. As a result, a 50-lb. push down on the handle creates a 450-lb. lift on the T-post.
"The jaws have laser-cut, serrated teeth cut onto them so they grab the post really tight. And they're made from a special hard metal AR400, heat-treated, abrasion resistant steel so they won't wear down," he adds.
The JackJaw 200 sells for $195 plus S&H.
