3-Pt. Snowblower Converted To Loader-Mount
Unable to look back from his tractor seat because of a recent injury, David Verley decided to mount his 3-pt. mounted snowblower on his front-end loader.
“I was operating a Bush hog about 1 1/2 years ago when I got hit by a spring pole and broke my neck. Now I can’t turn around to look back or reach the chute-turning crank,” says Verley.
The 5-ft. wide snowblower was originally powered by a pto-driven hydraulic pump. Verley bought a hydraulic pump and reservoir and mounted it on the tractor’s 3-pt. hitch, then ran a pair of hydraulic hoses up to the front. He removed the bucket from the loader and installed a home-built mounting frame in its place that supports the snowblower. He also bought a hydraulic motor and attached it to a short driveshaft at one end of the snowblower’s pto shaft.
“I built it last fall and used it a lot this winter. It works fantastic,” says Verley. “I use my White 4-WD, 30-hp. tractor to operate it. I engage the pto shaft to operate the pump, which drives the hydraulic motor that drives the pto shaft to operate the snowblower. One advantage is the snowblower can reach big snow banks 6 to 8 ft. high. Another is that I can use any 3-pt. attachment with the loader.”
The snowblower chute was originally rotated left or right by turning a hand crank. To automate the system, Verley hooked up the 12-volt moving mechanism from an old TV satellite dish to the crank, and wired it to a switch he mounted on the tractor’s dash.
