Reflective Strips Scare Birds Away
This new-style bird scarer uses both the wind and sun to chase pest birds away from homes and buildings.
The Bird Banisher creates reflected flashes of light as it spins in the wind. The holographic, laminated green and silver film strips measure 5 1/2 by 3 1/2 in. and come with spooky eyes that mimic a bird of prey. The strips hang from a swivel that attaches to a flexible, powder-coated, 10-in. long support rod that installs with screws, making it easy to move around. A magnetic base for the rod is available, and a clip can be used instead of the rod for attaching to tree branches, etc.
“Bird Banisher strips create a bright flash as they spin around,” says Jack Barne, Viking Product Supply, Troy, Ohio. “The swivel uses a stainless steel ball bearing that won’t corrode. It allows the reflector to spin even in light winds. The flexible rod can be easily bent to position the strip where you want it.
“We did five years of testing and research to find the correct patterns, colors, and materials to deter birds and withstand harsh climate situations.”
He says each strip’s coverage area will depend on the style of the home or building, and the pest bird. “Generally a residential 2-story home will need 3 to 4 per gable end,” says Barne. “If you’re trying to protect a roof area, then the strips should be elevated above the gutter line.”
The base price for the screw-in and clip-on versions of the Bird Banisher is $24.95 plus $5 S&H; for the magnet version $34.95 plus $5 S&H. Volume discounts are available.
