Tracking Units Work Well For Ag Equipment
With a simple locating device and a few minutes of your time, you can protect your investment in farm equipment, inventory, rental equipment or anything else that can be stolen or misplaced.
RecovR® is a wireless locator solution initially designed for consumer vehicles and military equipment. It uses technology from Phoenix-based Kudelski IoT.
The company recognized an opportunity in other markets and teamed up with Lawrence Tractor Company about three years ago to develop a system that works well with agriculture.
“Other companies have similar solutions. This (RecovR) is the best fit because of the support, the technology, the ease of use and installation and the price point. The device is universal and can track any asset from anywhere with no monthly subscription fee,” says Chris Ramos, Precision Ag Manager with Lawrence Tractor Company.
The RecovR units are wireless and can be attached anywhere on equipment within minutes by magnets, self-tapping screws or with bolts. Protected by a dust-proof and water-proof case, the small units (5 by 2.36 by 1.09 in.) can be easily hidden. For security, a geofence can be set up, and an email or text will be sent if equipment is moved out of that zone.
“One client has 12 different zones. You’re not limited in number or size,” Ramos says, adding the system is highly customizable to specific needs.
For example, a unit attached to a fertilizer tank helps employees know where to go with refill trucks. A harvest company uses it to track trailers hauling tomatoes for more efficient and timely processing. RecovR helps farmers, dealers, ag service providers, and dealers with rentals recover stolen goods.
“We own the technology from A to Z, so we can easily customize, and we have the agility to adjust to specific market needs,” says Patrick Hauert, senior vice president of asset tracking for Kudelski IoT. “One of the biggest challenges is battery life, so we need to own the technology.”
The batteries in the RecovR unit last for three years in temperatures ranging from -40 to 185 F. That’s the length of the service and warranty on the devices that sell for about $300.
Tiered pricing is available for volume orders, and RecovR is also signing dealers. Contact them for more information.
