Spill Proof Feeder For Hay, Grain, Cubes
It features a rugged metal tubular basket (6 ft. square at the top) and surrounded by a square (8 ft. by 8 ft.) bunk made of 3/4-in. plywood. The center "basket" is bolted to the bunk. Legs bolted onto the bunk allow the all-purpose feeder to be easily skidded from one location to another. The metal basket and legs are made of 1 1/4 in. by 16 ga. tubing.
"We figure his new-style feeder cuts feed waste about 85%," says Tom DePew, designer. "Formerly using a conventional feeder, we were feeding one 1,000 lb. bale per day for each 20 cows. With this new feeder, the same number of cows use only a bale every other day. The feeder accommodates animals of varying size -- from the smaller British breeds to Simmentals and other larger breeds," DePew points out. "Big bales are easily loaded into it with a tractor loader."
