Ford Unveils Genesis Tractors
The new turbocharged diesels include four models - 8670, 8770, 8870, and 8970 - that have 145, 160, 180, and 210 pto hp, respectively. All models are equipped with new 7.5-liter, 6-cyl., turbocharged diesel engines and are available in 2 or 4-WD.
"They're built totally new from the ground up. We think farmers will agree that they're now the best tractors in their class," says John Hundley, product manager.
New features include:
Up to 50% pto torque rise for constant pulling power in all conditions, reducing the need to downshift. "Farmers who tested these tractors are really impressed with the pto torque rise," says Hundley. "Optimum operating speed for Genesis tractors is 1,900 rpm's, a level that increases fuel economy and reduces engine noise. However, you can pull a 5-bottom plow and have the engine lug down to as low as 1,300 rpm's. It'll just walk through the tough spot and climb back to 1,900 rpm's without down-shifting."
First-of-its-kind movable control con-sole moves with the seat so you always have controls at your fingertips no matter what your seat position.
Cab has more glass and better front and rear visibility than any other tractor in its class, says Hundley. The front hood is tapered down, to shorten up sight lines in front of the tractor.
Optional SuperSteer FWD axle features a 65-degree turn angle for tighter turns and increased maneuverability. Reduces tractor turnaround diameter up to 40% compared to conventional front wheel assist tractors, and even turns shorter than standard 2-WD tractors. It-connects to the main tractor frame with a heavy ball-and-socket joint that al-lows the inside wheel to shift out away from the tractor during a turn so it clears the tractor front end.
Completely redesigned hydraulic system. Optional "MegaFlow" hydraulics de-liver 55 gal./min. at 2,750 psi - the highest available today, according to the company. Two pumps let you simultaneously operate a low-flow/high pressure system from one remote, and a high-flow/low-pressure system from another, without overheating the system. "Other tractors make one common pump carry both loads which can overwork the pump and consume too much horse-power," notes Hundley.
All service points can be easily reached from the ground level. Each side of the engine enclosure has an easy-to-open access door providing access to coolant-level and engine-oil dipstick, fill and filter. The entire hood flips up from the front for total access all the way around, including to the radiator and air cleaner.
The 16-speed powershift transmission offers several new features including:
Straightline shuttle shift. Electronic control of a series of clutches act as brakes to stop the tractor's forward motion. Then the transmission moves smoothly to the desired gear without clutching.
Pulse shift. Shifting up or down is accomplished by tapping the transmission lever left or right.
Automatic transport. Turns the power-shift into an automatic transmission for overthe-road travel.
Programmable upshift/downshift. Al-lows fast up and down shifts at the end of a row.
Programmable shuttle shift. Lets you preset the forward and reverse gears for loader work.
A 145 hp Genesis 8670 FWD sells for $82,358 with a standard front axle. Super-Steer sells for an extra $1,900.
The company also introduced four new 80 Series 4-WD tractors equipped with Cummins engines from 250 to 400 hp. and three new combines - the TR87 and TR97 rotaries and the TX66 conventional, which has been on the market in Europe for years.
